About Our Cobs
We buy the majority of our cobs from the south of Ireland, carefully picking them for their temperaments and suitability. Cobs have a reputation for being honest, gentle and reliable and this is why we believe they are perfectly suited to the more nervous rider. First time horse owners would also gain confidence from their placid dispositions and laid back attitude. A cob won't hold it against you if you make a mistake! They are incredibly forgiving.
All the cobs are thoroughly assessed before being advertised. We know from talking to many of you over the years what your priorities are when looking for a family cob. During the assessment period the horses are routinely ridden into the centre of a busy village where they meet everything from prams, tractors, school buses, articulated lorries and dogs! We expect them to do this both alone and in company. The same goes for cantering in open spaces - we expect them to be sensible at all times.
Schooling
When it comes to schooling, cobs are just like us. Some of them love it, some of them hate it and some of them will just grit their teeth and tolerate it! At the farm we have a small schooling area that we can take the horses in and see which category they fall in to. We also pop them over a jump or two. We will be sure to let you know how your horse responds.
Handling
They certainly get lots of this! Grooming, bathing, photographing - you name it and we have probably done it. They are surrounded by life here, children, dogs, friends and co-workers, so if they were shy when they arrived they won't be by the time they leave!
